Dear friends:

Brett BeaubienIt is my pleasure to write to you as President of the Roger Williams University School of Law Alumni Association. The School of Law is emerging from the pandemic while it approaches its thirtieth anniversary. This is a moment of significant change and an opportunity for growth. Please take a moment with me to reflect on the tremendous progress our school has achieved over the last three decades and how much more we must look forward to.

Since 1996 our school has produced 3,887 graduates with a Juris Doctor degree. In 2016, the Experiential Learning Campus opened in Providence as a base for students engaged in externships and other legal work in the city. Our alumni work in fields across the board, from servicing the public interest, the military, and the government, to private law firms and the corporate sector. Our alumni live and work in all fifty states, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

Our school’s success is attributable to the strength and dedication of its alumni. As we look ahead to the next thirty years, your connection and contribution to the school are critical for its continuing success. That, in turn, increases the value of our degrees. Moreover, staying connected allows our careers to flourish, friendships to thrive, and, most importantly, our work to have the greatest impact on the practice of law.

The Alumni Association is working to bring back opportunities for us to get together in person. We were so excited to see you at the golf tournament in September and the recent Holiday Reception. We hope to see you soon for upcoming CLE events, after-hours networking gatherings, and regional Alumni events. Please follow us on our social media channels to stay updated with these events and connect with each other.

To stay in touch with alumni news and events, please keep us updated with your contact information using this link.

The success of our school and the value of our degrees are also primarily measured by the number of alumni who contribute by giving back. Regardless of whether the amount is modest or large, every gift matters, and every gift demonstrates our strong support. You can make an online gift here to the fund of your choice.

It is a privilege to work for you. I want to hear from you about what we are doing well and what we need to do better. We can only be successful with your feedback. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at lawalumni@rwu.edu.

Very Respectfully,

Brett V. Beaubien, Esq.
Class of 2016

Close Course Type Descriptions

Course Types

We have classified RWU Law classes under the following headers. One of the following course types will be attached to each course which will allow students to narrow down their search while looking for classes.

Core Course

Students in the first and second year are required to take classes covering the following aspects of the law—contracts, torts, property, criminal law, civil procedure, and constitutional law, evidence, and professional responsibility.  Along with these aspects, the core curriculum will develop legal reasoning skills.

Elective

After finishing the core curriculum the remaining coursework toward the degree is completed through upper level elective courses.  Students can choose courses that peak their interests or courses that go along with the track they are following.

Seminar

Seminars are classes where teachers and small groups of students focus on a specific topic and the students complete a substantial research paper.

Clinics/Externships

Inhouse Clinics and Clinical Externships legal education is law school training in which students participate in client representation under the supervision of a practicing attorney or law professor.  RWU Law's Clinical Programs offer unique and effective learning opportunities and the opportunity for practical experience while still in law school.
